OLD
TOLLINGTONIANS FINAL REUNION- 12 SEPTEMBER 2009
70 years
ago, on the 1 September 1939, some 250 boys from Tollington School
in north London arrived in Buckden. Accompanied by their headmaster,
Dr Draper and his staff, the boys were to continue their schooling
in the Towers until 1942 safely away from the London Blitz. Over
the three years, the boys age from 10-17 years were billeted all
over the village and beyond from Alconbury to St. Neots.
On
Saturday 12 September 2009, some former pupils from the 1939 evacuation,
the youngest now 77 years young, gave an afternoon reception in
The Towers for invited guests as a mark of gratitude to the village
of Buckden. To celebrate, The Old Tollingtonians Society, in this
their final Buckden reunion, had commissioned a wonderful cake featuring
the School crest.
